At Clark Memorial, Mrs. Jolene Brandon’s 3rd grade ELA students didn’t just read about Native American cultures, they brought history to life with their own hands. Through this grant-funded project, students learned the art of reed basket weaving, researched its cultural significance, and explored Native American artwork through a virtual field trip to the Smithsonian. The result? Every student created their own handcrafted basket… learning patience, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for cultures of the past along the way. For many of these students, this was a first-time experience, one they’ll remember for years to come… just like Mrs. Brandon did when she was a student herself.

Through the Medal of Honor Character Development Program, these students spent the year learning about citizenship, character, and the sacrifices made by our nation’s veterans. With support from the Foundation, students were able to publish their very own book, “This Is My Country!” — a collection of their artwork, writing, and reflections from this incredible journey. This project is about so much more than a book. It’s about teaching students the importance of leadership, service, patriotism, and honoring those who came before us.

Mrs. Chelsea Hall, STEM Teacher at South Middle School was able to purchase a full aquaponics system (several fish, aquarium supplies, and several types of plants). This initiative will hopefully spark an interest in environmental/agricultural studies and encourage students to go into high school with some prior knowledge of how these systems work.

Our foundation was able to donate 2,900 glasses for all of the elementary students in our district to safely view the total eclipse on April 8th, 2024! Students across the district did lots of learning leading up to their spectacular viewing! We were so happy to help make this happen!
Mrs. Jamie Olsen, Art Teacher at Decherd Elementary was able to buy quality art supplies. Oil pastels, paint sticks, watercolor paints, printmaking supplies, markers, needle felting supplies, etc. With a budget of only $800 for 400 Title 1 students, the Ed Foundation has blessed her with a functioning children’s Art Studio. The purchases have helped her use professional supplies with her students.
